A Devine solution designed, engineered and delivered by Preston Hire
Queensland-based Devine Constructions has built and managed a number of medium to large scale projects that have ranged from office fit-outs to multi-level residential builds, as well projects for the education and health sectors.
In 2012, Devine Constructions was awarded the prestigious Australian Institute of Building National Award for Residential Construction for its work on the $500 million Hamilton Harbour mixed-use development, a clear sign of the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
As the hire and rental equipment experts, Preston Hire has been servicing the construction industry for over 40 years. In this time, the company has gained an excellent understanding of the equipment required by companies like Devine Constructions, allowing it to stay at the forefront when it comes to cutting edge ideas and technology.
So when Devine Constructions come up with an innovative deck frame concept for the SuperDeck™ retractable loading platform, it was promptly taken onboard by Preston Hire, enabling the provision of a customised and unique solution to Devine’s needs.
According to Devine Constructions Site Manager Anthony Smits, the custom frame idea came to him while he was working on the new Brisbane Children’s Hospital.
“I came up with an idea for a custom frame for the Preston Hire SuperDeck which would enable it to be extended by anything up to 1.8m from the edge of the floor, allowing it to be used as a loading platform regardless of where the slab ends, and also doing away with the need for any back propping or the building of extra loading bays.
“Preston Hire made up some initial drawings from my idea and then went away and engineered this custom-designed SuperDeck frame, which we have now successfully used on the Brisbane Children’s Hospital,” said Smits.
“This customised frame solution has enabled us to extend the SuperDeck out to 1.5m past its current edge and has allowed us to use the SuperDeck with thin slabs that do not have enough load carrying capacity, and also in areas where there was not the stability or strength to load materials or equipment.
“It also meant that we were able to use a crane for longer periods, rather than needing to set up an extra hoist system to pick up and move heavy items up to the floors that we were working on.
“This new framing system provided a lot more versatility for us in a range of areas as well as saving us both time and money,” Smits stated.
From a general perspective, Anthony Smits said that dealing with Preston Hire is an easy and great experience, mainly because the hire company always has the right people and the right procedures in place.
“I’ve been dealing with Preston Hire for the past 10 years, and in that time, I have found the company to always have their ducks in a row.
“Whether we are talking about having the latest properly-maintained equipment, the best people and all the correct documentation up to date and on hand, Preston Hire is a company that is serious about both its customer’s safety and its customer service.
“When you hire a piece of equipment from Preston Hire, they will generally have it delivered to you in under 48 hours, complete with all the correct safety documentation and instructions, which is crucial for proper compliance and adhering to safety regulations in the building industry.
“I don’t know of many other companies that operate like that, but thankfully, when it comes to access hire equipment, the people that run Preston Hire know what they are doing,” Smits concluded.
